NDMS Disaster Medical Assistance Teams provide high-quality rapid-response medical care when public health and medical emergencies overwhelm state, local, tribal, or territorial resources. DMAT San Diego CA-4 is a non-profit, public benefit corporation, which was originally formed to support a federal disaster medical response team based in sunny California.
OUR MISSION
Following the passage of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) in 2006, which moved the national Disaster Medical System from the U.S. Dept of Homeland Security back to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services, the mission of DMAT San Diego has evolved during non-federal declarations to put its main emphasis on community and individual disaster preparedness, disaster awareness and training. It maintains its own office and disaster specialty library, available by appointment only to disaster researchers and response personnel.
