Jake Jacoby, M.D.

Dr. Irving "Jake" Jacoby did his medical internship and residency at Boston City Hospital and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and an Infectious Disease fellowship at the latter hospital. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine with a subspecialty in Infectious Diseases. He was employed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and was also a flight physician for New England Life Flight. Dr. Jacoby joined the DEM in 1984, and is the Associate Medical Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center and the Disaster Control Officer for UCSD Medical Center. He is the Commander of DMAT-San Diego (CA-4), a countywide Disaster Medical Assistance Team affiliated with the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) and sponsored by UCSD Medical Center. The team has been deployed for the Northridge earthquake in January 1994, the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, and the Grand Forks, North Dakota flood in April 1997. In addition, he is Disaster Medicine section editor for the Journal of Emergency Medicine, and is currently on the Executive Committee of both the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and the National Association of DMATs.
